Mullen and South Loup Claim MNAC Titles

Mullen and South Loup were crowned champions at the 2022 Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament on Saturday.  Mullen repeated as boys conference tournament champions.  The Broncos knocked off the top seed Hyannis in the championship game 43-32.  For Hyannis it was just their 2nd loss of the season as Mullen held the Longhorns to their lowest point total of the season.  Mullen was led once again by Clayton Moore and Trevor Kuncl as each finished in double figures.  Moore led all scorers with 20 points and Kuncl finished with 16.  The Broncos improve to 13-6 on the season.

 

South Loup claimed the girls tournament title by defeating top seed Anselmo-Merna 54-44.  The Lady Bobcats led 27-22 at half and kept the Coyotes at arms length in the second half outscoring AM 27-22 in the 2nd half.  South Loup was led by Megan Donegan who had a game high 18 points and Lauryn Johnson came off the bench to finish in double figures with 11.  Anselmo-Merna was led by Shaylyn Safranek who had a team high 14 points.  For South Loup it’s their 12 win in a row as they improve to 14-4 on the season.

In other action from the MNAC tournament on Saturday, Sandhills/Thedford won both the boys and girls consolation games.  Sandhills/Thedford defeated Anselmo-Merna in the boys consolation game 50-32.  S/T was led by Kyle Cox who had 14 points and AM was led by Wyat Lambertson who had a team high 14.  Sandhills/Thedford defeated Mullen in the girls consolation 39-31.  The Lady Knights were led by Tenley Rasmussen with 17 points and Mullen was led by Lauren Schoonveld who had a team high 11 points.
