Mullen and Burwell Advance to State Semifinals

The Burwell Longhorns advanced to the Class D1 state football semifinals Tuesday night with a 43-8 win over Arcadia/Loup City. The Rebels would score first to take an 8-0 lead on a 5 yard Caden Kusek touchdown run. That would be all the points the Rebels would score on the night as Burwell responded with 43 unanswered points. The Longhorns were led by running back Jase Williams who finished with 102 yards and 4 touchdowns. Burwell improved to 11-0 and advances to the Class D1 state semifinals on Monday where they will host North Central who defeated Dundy County Stratton 50-14. Arcadia Loup City concludes the season at 6-5. In other D1 quarterfinal action, Exeter Milligan Friend defeated Guardian Angels Central Catholic 46-12 and Creighton defeated Lutheran High Northeast 76-28.

Mullen advanced to the Class D2 state semifinals Tuesday with a 52-36 win against Overton. Mullen jumped out to a 30-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. The Broncos were led by all-state running back Lane Edis who finished with 242 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. Mullen will play Lawrence-Nelson on Monday. Lawrence-Nelson upset the #2 seed in the west Kenesaw 28-12.

In other D2 quaterfinal action, Johnson Brock defeated Bloomfield 72-32 and Humphrey St. Francis defeated Falls City Sacred Heart 54-36.
