MNAC Semifinals – South Loup and Mullen Advance to Boys AND Girls Finals

The seeds continued to hold through the semifinals of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference Tournament. The top two seeds advanced to the boys championship as well as the girls championship games. Thursday’s semifinal round began with South Loup meeting Anselmo-Merna in the first of the two boys semifinals. The Bobcats jumped out early and were able to hold the Coyotes at bay as they collected a 46-32 win. South Loup was led by Grant Jones who finished with a team high 14 while Jace Connell also finished in double figures with 12 for the Bobcats. A-M was led by Jace Leibhart who had a game high 17. South Loup, the #2 seed in the tournament, will meet top seed Mullen for the boys championship on Saturday. The Broncos took control early against Hyannis and rolled to a 62-26 win. Mullen’s Brendon Walker led all scorers with a game high 21.

The girls championship on Saturday will feature the same two teams. In the first of the two girls semifinals, South Loup was able to pull away late to defeat Cody Kilgore 47-35. The Lady Bobcats led by just 2 at the half but were able to gain control late in the fourth. South Loup got a big game off the bench from Kalie Glendy who scored 13 with all 13 coming in the second half. The Lady Bobcats will face the top seed Mullen for the girls championship on Saturday. The undefeated Lady Broncos survived a scare from Anselmo-Merna in the final game of the day. Mullen trailed by 6 entering the 4th quarter but was able to come back for a 38-32 victory. Mullen’s Samantha Moore led all scorers with 17 points and Alexis Zimmer led A-M with a team high 12.

Championship Saturday is now set. The day will begin with the boys 3rd place consolation game at 2:30 as Anselmo-Merna will meet Hyannis. That will be followed by the girls consolation between A-M and Cody Kilgore. South Loup will then meet Mullen for the boys championship followed by Mullen vs South Loup for the girls title. All four games will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com
