Mid States Finals Rodeo Held in Broken Bow

The Custer County Fairgrounds in Broken Bow and Trotter Arena was host again this year to the Mid States Finals Rodeo. Performances were held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Whitten Hoover of Ainsworth won the bareback riding at the finals and finished 2nd overall in the year end standings. Logan Glendy of Oconto finished 4th at the finals. Spencer DeNaeyer of Seneca was 4th and Rob Keeney of Broken Bow 6th in the year end standings of the barebacks competition.

Mitch Adow of Hyannis placed first in the tie down roping at the finals. Clete Scheer of Elsmere was the overall year end champion in the event.

JL Spurgeon of Mullinville, KS placed first in the 45 and over tie down roping at the finals. Rusty Kluender of Broken Bow finished 4th and Cooper Phillips of Burwell finished 6th in the final year end standings of the event.

Clayton Van Aiken of Laramie, WY and Gralyn Elkins of Ericson, NE won the team roping at the finals. Cooper Brott of Gothenburg and Todd Hollenbeck of Rose, NE were 2nd.

Shawnee Sherwood of Idaho and Clayton Van Aken of Wyoming won the mixed team roping at this past weekend’s finals.

The breakaway roping was won by Brook Jamison of Ashby, NE and Danielle Wray of Ord was 2nd. Jamison was also the year end champion in the event.

Tristan Eklund of Valentine won the saddle bronc competition at the finals. He was second in the year end standings just behind Lane Whitelock of Lewellen, NE. Brody McAbee of Ansley finished 7th and Zane Smith of Callaway finished 8th in the year end saddle bronc standings.

The steer wrestling at the finals was won by local cowboy Cord Hesseltine of Arnold. Hesseltine finished 2nd in the year end standings behind Kris Rasmussen of Riverdale.

Patty Finney of Ainsworth won the barrel racing at the finals with Branda Marsh of Thedford placing 3rd and Ashley Odenbach of Taylor finishing 4th. Marsh was also third in the year end standings.

In the bull riding at the finals, Koby Jacobsen of Hershey was the winner. Jacobsen was also the year end champion.
