Micheel and Bloomer to Compete at Nebraska Girls State Wrestling Championships

The Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association 2021 girls state wrestling tournament takes place this weekend.  Ally Micheel of Twin Loup and Lila Bloomer of South Loup are among those scheduled to compete at this year’s tournament.

Micheel, a student athlete at Sargent high school, won the 152 lb. championship at last year’s tournament and will compete at 154 lbs. this year.  Micheel told KCNI/KBBN Sports that she started wrestling at the age of four but then began to shift toward playing basketball as she got older.

After suffering an injury while playing basketball, Micheel said that her focus shifted back to wrestling

Micheel encourages young girls to not be afraid to try the sport of wrestling and she hopes to see it sanctioned by the NSAA and one day have the girls tournament resemble that of the boys.

Bloomer, a student athlete at Callaway high school, will compete in the 170 lb. weight class.  She told Central Nebraska’s Sports Source that wrestling against her brother is what prompted her to get involved in the sport.

Bloomer talked about her preparation for this weekend’s state tournament.

The NSWCA girls state tournament will take place at York high school Friday (1/29) and Saturday (1/30).   First round will begin Friday at 4:30 pm. Saturday, wrestling will begin with semifinals, which are scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM. York High will allow 3 spectators per wrestler.
