Lincoln County Raceway Results 6/29

Story by Kelly Ninas

The racing action was heated in all classes as the competitors attempted to beat the heat during night two of the 360 Sprint Cars, as they were joined by the Rocky Mountain Dwarf Cars and the IMCA Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Northern Sport Modifieds at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte, Nebraska on Saturday evening.

Punching their tickets to the winners circle as a result of their performance on the track were the foursome of Jake Bubak, Jacob Olmstead, Andrew Dillenburg and Zach Olmstead.
In the highlighted event, Jake Bubak of Arvada, Colorado started on the front row and was able to stay up front for the whole race to claim the second consecutive feature in the 360 Sprint Cars. Bubak was able to work his magic to pull away with a big cushion after caution flags and then work through traffic with ease to earn the victory. Zach Blurton of Quinter, Kansas wasted no time at all to start chasing down Bubak. Blurton started the feature event in the second row of the starting grid and was able to move up into the runner-up position during the early laps and stayed in contention for the remainder of the feature to finish second overall. Young gun Shane Sundquist of Bertrand was able to earn a podium finish in third place. Sundquist started the feature event on the outside of the third row and was able to charge forward with a sense of urgency in the waning laps to earn the third place accolades. McCook’s Darren Berry and Mark Chisholm of Cheyenne, Wyoming were fourth and fifth overall in the feature event.

In their first visit to North Platte, the Rocky Mountain Dwarf Cars did not disappoint. Filling in for his brother in law, Jake Bubak of Arvada, Colorado was able to start up front and stay up front despite the efforts of many heavy hitters challenging for the lead. Bubak was able to cross the finish line first to claim the victory from his front row starting position. Doing his best to put the pressure on Bubak throughout the feature was Brad Bayne of Eaton, Colorado. Bayne started on the outside of the second row and put his best foot forward in taking a step up the ladder to run the high groove in hopes of passing Bubak for the lead. Bayne’s efforts powered him to the runner-up position as he had jostled with the leaders throughout the feature. Coming from deep in the field, Alex Hammond of Ft. Morgan unofficial got the hard charger award for his outstanding effort in driving his hot rod from his eighth row starting position to a third place finish. Rounding out the top five was Jerry Hunter and Keith Welch, both of Greeley, Colorado in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Weathering the storm of a feature riddled with cautions, Jacob Olmstead of Overton was able to garner the lead in the IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature on lap seven and drive away and hide for the victory. Olmstead started the feature in the fourth row and was able to avoid incidents that occurred on the opening laps. Leading the feature prior to Olmstead gaining the lead was Jamey Kennicutt of Gothenburg. Kennicutt led laps five and six after getting to the front from his fourth row starting position and recovered from losing the lead quite nicely to earn the runner-up accolades. Putting together one of his best efforts of the season, Kerry Jones of North Platte was able to finish third overall in the feature after starting the feature in the third row when the green flag was waved.

Leading the final five laps, Andrew Dillenburg of North Platte was the victor in the IMCA Stock Car Feature. Dillenburg started the main event on the outside of the eighth row and was able to garner the lead on lap 10 and score the win. Travis Demilt of Ogallala was able to drive his way to a podium finish after starting in the third row and garnering the lead during the eighth and ninth laps. Demilt lost the lead to Dillenburg, but it wasn’t enough to knock Demilt off his game as he recovered to finish second overall. Coming from his fifth row starting position, Casey Woken of Norton, Kansas drove onto the podium with gumption to finish third overall. Early leader Jason Anderson of Weldona, Colorado was the pace setter for the initial seven laps before falling back and finishing fourth, just in front of Flyin’ Farmer Kyle Clough of Wallace in fifth place overall.

Grabbing the lead early and never looking back was Zach Olmstead of Overton to win the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Olmstead started the feature in the fourth row and was able to not only drive into contention but take the lead on the fourth lap and never look back to claim the victory. Doing his best to finish strong, Tanner Clough of Wallace was able to score a runner-up finish after starting the feature event in the fourth row. Coming home in third place as a result of his great consistency throughout the feature was Chuck Ledbetter of Loomis. Ledbetter started the feature in the second row and was able to stay among the leaders throughout the main event. Tyson Canas of Cozad and North Platte’s Tanner Jones crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth, respectively.
