The KBBN football game of the week Friday will take place in Thedford as the undefeated Sandhills/Thedford Knights host the 3-2 Ansley/Litchfield Spartans. It’s an important game in the D2-9 district race as S/T is 2-0 in the district with wins against Twin Loup and South Loup and A/L is 1-1 in the district falling to Pleasanton on the road and winning over Twin Loup last week. A big part of Sandhills/Thedford’s success this year has been the big play production of their special teams. Trae Hickman has returned three punts and one kickoff for a touchdown this season. Sandhills/Thedford head coach Josh Deines told KCNI/KBBN Sports that the blocking on kick and punt returns has played a big part in that success.
After winning just one game a year ago, Ansley/Litchfield is building a resume that could make them playoff eligible this season. As the Spartans strive to get better each week, coach Kurt Kulhanek told Central Nebraska’s Sports Source that the offensive line play and the passing game are the two areas that have perhaps grown the most since week one.
Friday’s game between the Knights and Spartans will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with coverage beginning with the Consolidated Friday Night Lights Pregame Show at 6 pm followed by the kickoff at 7.
