The Burwell Longhorns fell to North Platte St. Pat’s in the semifinals of the boys Class D1 state basketball tournament. Burwell got off to a good start and led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter but it all changed in the 2nd quarter as St. Pat’s outscored Burwell 23-2 to take control on their way to a 55-32 win. St. Pat’s will play Loomis for the D1 state title on Friday. Loomis outscored Dundy County Stratton 22-6 in the fourth quarter to come back for a 60-48 win. Burwell will play DCS tomorrow (3/10) in the boys D1 third place consolation game.
Gothenburg fell to Lincoln Lutheran 35-23 in the semifinals of the girls Class C1 state basketball tournament. Gothenburg trailed by just two going into the 4th quarter but was outscored by Lutheran 13-3 in the final eight minutes. Lincoln Lutheran will play the defending state champion North Bend Central for the C1 title on Friday. North Bend defeated GICC 44-32. Gothenburg will play GICC in the third place consolation game on Thursday.
