The Nebraska American Legion Class B Junior State baseball tournament came to its conclusion Wednesday in McCook. Recapping the tournament, which included Broken Bow. In the opening round, Beatrice defeated Alliance, Hickman defeated Roncalli, Waverly defeated Broken Bow and Central City won over McCook. In round two, it was Hickman winning over Beatrice, Central City defeated Waverly, Roncalli defeated Alliance, and McCook defeated Broken Bow. In round 3, Hickman won the winner’s bracket final over Central City while Waverly defeated Roncalli and Beatrice defeated McCook in elimination games. In the 4th round, Hickman remained undefeated by eliminating Waverly and Central City advanced to the championship by defeating Beatrice 6-2. In the championship Wednesday it was all Hickman. Hickman claimed the 2019 American Legion Class B Junior State baseball title Wednesday with an impressive 15-0 win over Central City in the championship game. The title game victory completed a dominant run through the state tournament for Hickman. Following a 1-0 walk off win over Roncalli in the opening round of the tournament, no one came close to Hickman. The Class B champions were a perfect 5-0 and ended up outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 54-2.
Palmer Wolbach Greeley will play today (7/25) for the Class C Junior State Tournament championship. PWG remained undefeated in the tournament by eliminating Louisville Weeping Water yesterday 9-6. PWG will play Syracuse in the championship game as Syracuse stayed alive yesterday by eliminating Tekamah-Herman 9-4. The two met earlier in the tournament with PWG winning 8-0. To claim the title, Palmer Wolbach Greeley needs just one more win while Syracuse would have to beat PWG twice today in order to win the championship.
