The Class B and Class C American Legion seniors state baseball tournaments concluded Wednesday. Hickman was the Class B champion. Hickman went through the tournament undefeated to claim the title. Hickman opened the tournament back on Saturday with an 11-4 win over Broken Bow in the opening round. Hickman would follow with wins against Omaha Roncalli in round two, Alliance in the winner’s bracket final on Monday, and Columbus Lakeview on Tuesday. Hickman played Alliance again in the championship round on Wednesday. Hickman scored 9 runs in the fourth inning to help secure a 14-1 victory in five innings.
Dannebrog Cairo Boelus was the Class C state champion. DCB went through the tournament undefeated. DCB defeated Crofton in round 1 back on Saturday. They followed that with wins over Palmer Wolbach Greeley in round two, Louisville-Weeping Water in the winner’s bracket final, and SOS on Tuesday. DCB would face PWG in the championship round. The game went extra innings with DCB winning 2-1 in 8 innings.
