Hastings Ready to Host Mid-South American Legion Baseball Regional

The City of Hastings and Duncan Field will serve as host for this year’s Mid-South American Legion Baseball Regional which starts Wednesday (8/7) and runs through Sunday (8/11). The tournament will feature state championship teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska as well as the host team – Hastings Five Points Bank. The champion of the double elimination tournament will advance to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina August 15-19. This will mark the first time a Nebraska city has hosted the American Legion Regional since 2004. Historic Duncan Field has a long history with the American Legion program having last hosted a regional in 1976 as well as the American Legion World Series back in 1969 and was the home of the series 1959-1961.

Fremont First State Bank recently won the Nebraska Class A American Legion Championship and will be the state’s representative. Fremont will go up against the “Travelers” of Sedalia, MO on Wednesday at 4pm in the opening round of the tournament. With the tournament in Hastings, Hastings Five Points Bank will compete as the host team and will play the “Black Sox” of Bryant, AR Wednesday at 7pm. Other opening round matchups will include : Three Rivers (OK) Bandits vs Texarkana (TX) Bulldogs – 10am ; Emporia (KS) Post 5 vs Festus (MO) Post 253 – 1pm
