The Gothenburg Melons fell just short in their bid to win the American Legion Seniors Area 6 baseball tournament in Holdrege on Monday. Gothenburg defeated Holdrege 10-4 Monday to advance to the championship game against McCook. McCook defeated Gothenburg earlier in the tournament 7-0 but this one was much closer. According to the Nebraska Legion Baseball website, it went down to the final inning with McCook coming out on top 6-4. McCook now advances to the Class B Seniors state tournament in Wayne which begins July 28th.
