The Broken Bow girls basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday at the girls state basketball tournament as the Lady Indians fell to the defending C1 champion North Bend Central 50-29. North Bend Central jumped out early and never trailed in the game as Broken Bow tried to keep pace but struggled against Central’s man to man pressure. North Bend was led by the Emanuel sisters with sophomore Kaitlyn leading all scorers with 25 points and junior Sydney finishing with 12. North Bend Central advances to the C1 semifinals on Friday where they will face the #8 seed Winnebago who upset top seed GICC 48-46. Broken Bow was led by Kya Scott who had a team high 13 points. The Lady Indians conclude one of the best seasons in school history as they finish at 23-2 tying the school record set by last year’s team for most wins in a season.
The Mullen Lady Broncos advanced to the semifinals of the D2 tournament with an impressive win over the #5 seed Exeter Milligan Wednesday 53-30. Mullen led 25-19 at halftime but pulled away in the 2nd half outscoring Exeter Milligan 28-11. Samantha Moore and Taylor Svoboda each had 16 points to lead the Broncos. Brooke McCulley also finished in double figures for Mullen with 10. Mullen is now 25-2 and returns to the semifinals for the second year in a row where they will get a rematch with the team that defeated them in the semis last year Humphrey St. Francis. The top seed rolled over Sterling in the opening round 73-41. The semifinal matchup will take place Thursday morning at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip off is scheduled for 9 am.
