The Mullen Lady Broncos advanced to the semifinals of the girls state tournament for the first time with a 60-54 win over Bruning Davenport Shickley in the opening round of the D2 tournament Thursday night. Mullen led by as many as 12 in the second half but had to hold off a 4th quarter rally by BDS to advance. Samantha Moore had a big night going 11 for 11 at the free throw line and leading all scorers with 27 points. The Lady Broncos will play Humphrey St. Francis in the semifinals. HSF defeated Sterling 60-53. Friday’s semifinal will tip off at 3:45 at the Devaney Center. In the other half of the D2 bracket, top seed Falls City Sacred Heart defeated Loomis 53-27. They will play Wynot in the semifinals as Wynot got by Lawrence-Nelson 48-39.
