Football Scores 9/25 – Broken Bow Wins in Dramatic Fashion

The Broken Bow Indians collected their first win of the football season Friday with a thrilling come from behind win over O’Neill at Mark Russell Field.  The game was tied at half 13-13.  The teams would go back and forth in the second half exchanging touchdowns.  with the difference being a successful 2 point conversion to give Broken Bow the lead 27-25 with 5:26 remaining.  Broken Bow would drive down to inside the O’Neill 10 yard line but would fumble with O’Neill recovering.  The Eagles would then score with under 40 seconds remaining on a Mason Walsh touchdown pass and convert the two point conversion to take the lead 33-27.  With all of their timeouts remaining, Broken Bow quarterback Blake Denson led the Indians down the field in the final 32 seconds as Bow advanced to the 2 yard line in 1.8 seconds remaining.  On the final play of regulation, Frazier Kaelin scored on a 2 yard touchdown run to tie the game and send it to overtime as the point after conversion failed.  In overtime, Broken Bow would get the ball first and score on another touchdown run from Frazier Kaelin.  Blake Denson would then connect with Qwentin Coble for the 2 point conversion to go up 41-33.  The Bow defense then came up big as they stopped O’Neill on 4th and goal from the 6 on their overtime possession to secure the win for the Indians and give Carlie Wells his first win as Broken Bow head coach.

Ansley/Litchfield improved to 3-2 on the season with a 56-22 win over Twin Loup.  Leyton Rohde had 4 touchdown passes, Tycen Bailey had 3 TD receptions and Cooper Slingsby had two touchdown runs to help lead the Spartans offensive attack.  Twin Loup’s scores came on a touchdown pass from Quade Young to Kade Bottorf and touchdown runs by Nolan Osborn and Waylon McBride.

The Sandhills/Thedford Knights improved to 5-0 holding off South Loup Friday afternoon.  South Loup scored on a 22 yard touchdown pass from Sam Cool to Brett Halstead with 5:34 remaining in the third quarter to pull to within 20-14.  Then Trae Hickman took over for S/T returning the ensuing kickoff 57 yards for a touchdown and followed with touchdown runs of 25 and 40 yards and a punt return 47 yards for a touchdown as the Knights pulled away for a 55-14 victory.
