First rounds canceled for all classes in Nebraska high school boys state golf tournament

NORFOLK, Neb. — Weather has caused the cancellation of the first round of the Nebraska boys golf state tournaments in all four classes.

All tournaments will now be 18 holes and played Wednesday.

The NSAA scuttled the Class C tournament at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney and the Class D tournament at Lake Maloney in North Platte before the scheduled start.

For the Class A tournament at Norfolk Country Club and the Class B meet at Elks Country Club, a decision was postponed until 11:30 a.m. as to whether play could start at 1 p.m.

NSAA assistant director Jon Dolliver, in charge of golf, said the possibility of a lightning storm entering the Columbus and Norfolk areas in late afternoon was the reason for not starting at 1 p.m. A shotgun start also was rejected because of an NSAA requirement that half the field completes the round.
