Randi Atkins enters her 6th season as head coach of the South Loup (Arnold/Callaway) volleyball program. The Bobcats have enjoyed a lot of success in the last two years putting together a combined record of 47-17 in the last two seasons. South Loup has made it to back to back district finals but have come up just short in each appearance falling to Southern Valley in 2017 and to Battle Creek in 2018. Coach Atkins told KCNI/KBBN Sports that being so close to making the state tournament gives the team motivation for this season but it can also create some pressure as well.
South Loup returns a strong core of players that have seen a lot of court time during their time in the program. Coach Atkins said that the group has not always been comfortable in the role of leadership but they have grown into it and the experience that they have accumulated has helped them deal with the pressure of competition.
South Loup volleyball will be featured on KBBN 95.3 on September 24 when they host a triangular with Anselmo-Merna and Elm Creek and on October 1st for their regular season match with Ansley/Litchfield. KBBN will also feature full coverage of this year’s MNAC volleyball tournament.
