Today Central Nebraska’s Sports Source continues its series of previews highlighting some of our area sports teams as we prepare for the start of the fall sports season. Today we put the spotlight on the South Loup Bobcats football team. The Bobcats are coming off a memorable season in 2017 that saw them go through the regular season undefeated and make it all the way to the D1 state championship game in Lincoln where they finished as the state runner-up. While some of the key pieces of last year’s team have graduated and move on, head coach Andy Schwarz is excited about those who are returning to lead the charge this year. Coach Schwarz has been impressed with the work ethic of this year’s group which was demonstrated during the summer. The Bobcats will play in what should be one of the tougher districts in Class D1. Joining South Loup in the D1-8 district this year are Ansley/Litchfield, Arcadia/Loup City, Burwell, Elm Creek, and Amherst. South Loup opens the season on August 24th when they host Sutherland. Our fall sports previews continue on Monday when we put the spotlight on the Arcadia/Loup City football team.
