Today’s fall sports preview focuses on the Ansley/Litchfeld volleyball team. The Lady Spartans finished last season with an overall mark of 10-22 but certainly showed improvement during the season and will look to build off of that in 2020. Jamee Smith enters her second year as head coach of the Lady Spartans. Coach Smith told KCNI/KBBN sports that with everything going on outside of sports with the COVID-19 situation it has been so good and exciting to get back in the gym and work once again with the players.
Coach Smith shared with Central Nebraska’s Sports Source some of the things she learned in her first year as head coach last season.
Coach Smith said that some of the focus in fall camp has been centered around basic skills such as passing and developing new leadership for this season. She has been pleased with the way that leadership has started to develop with players like senior Carli Bailey as well as younger players like Katherine Paitz and Kaylee Rohde who started last year as freshmen. The Lady Spartans will begin their season Thursday with a triangular with Elm Creek and Amherst.
