Coverage of SWC and MNAC Basketball Tournaments on KCNI/KBBN

The Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament began Saturday with opening round games in Arthur. In the girls tournament, Sandhills Valley and Twin Loup advanced. Sandhills Valley defeated Brady 38-33 and will now play top seed Mullen. Twin Loup defeated Hyannis 60-30 and advances to play the #2 seed Anselmo-Merna. Due to the winter weather forecasted for the early part of this week, the tournament schedule for this week could be altered.  Second round games in the girls tournament are to be played in Mullen featuring Arthur County vs Sandhills Thedford followed by Mullen vs Sandhills Valley.  Second round games in Merna will feature South Loup against Cody-Kilgore and Anselmo-Merna against Twin Loup. Games from Merna are planned to be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with a live video stream available on Facebook, You Tube, and Twitter.

Brady and Arthur County advanced Saturday in the boys tournament. Brady defeated Twin Loup 51-40 and advances to play top seed Mullen. Arthur County defeated Cody Kilgore 47-35 and will now play #2 seed Sandhills Valley. (Weather permitting) Second round games in the boys tournament are to be played on Tuesday. In Mullen, Sandhills/Thedford will play Hyannis at 5:30 followed by Mullen against Brady. In Stapleton, Anselmo-Merna will play South Loup followed by Sandhills Valley against Arthur County. Games at Stapleton are planned to be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with a live video stream available on Facebook, You Tube, and Twitter.  Stay tuned to Central Nebraska’s Sports Source for possible changes to the tournament schedule.

The Southwest Conference basketball tournament is scheduled for this week and already some changes to the schedule have been announced due to the winter weather conditions forecasted for this week. Broken Bow is the top seed in the girls tournament and will host Cozad on Tuesday at the Indian gym with tip off set for 6 p.m. Broken Bow is the #2 seed in the boys tournament and will host Gothenburg at the Indian gym Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The two teams met last Thursday with Bow winning in overtime 45-41. Broken Bow’s opening round games will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com.  Other opening round games include : Girls – Gothenburg vs Minden, Ogallala vs McCook and Ainsworth vs Valentine. Boys – Ogallala vs Valentine, Ainsworth vs Cozad, and McCook vs Minden. Winners will advance to the semifinals scheduled to be played at Kearney High School on Friday.
