Cornhusker State Games – Visit with Dave Mlnarik – Part 2

Today we conclude our visit with Dave Mlnarik, executive director of the Nebraska Sports Council, as he and his staff continue to organize this year’s Cornhusker State Games which is scheduled for July 17-26.  The beginning of the annual amateur sports festival has always been made special by the opening ceremonies.  Because of the ever changing climate regarding the coronavirus, Mlnarik said that the way they handle this year’s opening ceremonies is “yet to be determined”.

Back in May, the Nebraska Sports Council announced that they would change the way they conduct the annual torch run leading up to the games.  The new format called for runners to register and run a minimum of one mile in a safe location in their home county, and then post a selfie-photo or -video from their mile(s) on the CSG Torch Run Facebook page on the day assigned to their county.  The “Virtual Torch Run” is underway and Mlnarik said that it has been a great success.

If you are interested in competing at this year’s games, Mlnarik said that it is best to get registered now rather than later.  To register go to www.cornhuskerstategames.com
