Cornhusker State Games Event Changes Announced

State Games Event Changes Announced
LINCOLN, Neb. (June 19, 2020) — Nebraska Sports Council (NSC) officials released a Cornhusker State Games (CSG) event update, including 60 CSG sports on as scheduled. It was also announced that the Opening Ceremonies would be held virtually.
“We are doing our best, with help and guidance from state and local health officials, to have as many events as safely and feasibly possible,” Executive Director Dave Mlnarik said. “This includes some difficult decisions like going virtual with the Opening Ceremonies, our largest-crowd event in normal years.”
Mlnarik said the NSC staff is still working through facility and safety measures on nine sports listed as “possible”. He said two sports, Adventure Race and Triathlon, will be held virtually. Two sports, Ice Hockey and Wrestling, are postponed indefinitely and three sports, Figure Skating, Sport Skydiving and Taekwondo are canceled. Mlnarik encouraged athletes to check for updates regularly, be patient regarding changes and be respectful of health-related measures at the events.
The full list of sports and their current status can be found at CornhuskerStateGames.com.
Other changes for 2020 include:
–There will be no admissions charged at competition venues.
–There will be no packet pickup. Athlete shirts and free-meal coupons will be shipped, and all competition-related information will be emailed and/or posted online.
–The NSC yearbook will be distributed digitally, rather than in print form.
–Entry fee increases have been suspended since registration opened and will remain at opening levels through July 6.
–Athletes registered for canceled events have three options: donate their entry fee, apply their fee to future NSC events or a full refund.
Officials have been pleased with participation in the virtual Torch Run, which allowed runners to register, run one or more miles in a safe location in their home county, carry a meaningful object as their torch and submit photos from their run. The Torch Run, currently in its 19th day with 3-6 counties per day, concludes June 25th. All 93 counties have at least one registered runner, a first in CSG history. There are 893 registered runners total, covering 1,847 miles. Runner photos and torch stories can be viewed at Facebook.com/CSGTorchRun.
