Class D1 and D2 NSAA State Football Semifinals Today

The Burwell Longhorns will attempt to make their 4th state football championship game appearance in the last 5 years when they host Dundy County Stratton today.  The Longhorns won the Class D1 football championship in 2016 and finished as runner-up in 2015 and 2018.  The Longhorns finished the regular season at 6-2 but have been very impressive in their playoff run with wins over Hitchcock County in round one (48-16), Elm Creek in round 2 (50-13), and knocking off previously unbeaten Cambridge in the quarterfinals (71-48).  Burwell will play Dundy County Stratton for the right to advance to the D1 championship game at Memorial Stadium.  The Tigers are now 10-1 with wins in the playoffs over Hemingford, Fullerton, and Arcadia/Loup City.  Today’s game is scheduled to kickoff at 5 PM.  The other D1 semifinal today features Osceola-High Plains (9-2) vs Cross County (7-4).

In Class D2, Pleasanton will look to achieve its first ever state football championship appearance.  The Bulldogs are currently 9-2 with wins in the playoffs over Brady, Kenesaw, and Twin Loup.  Pleasanton’s opponent will be Overton.  The Eagles are 8-3 and advanced with playoff wins over CWCE, Garden County, and Central Valley.  Overton last appeared in the state championship game in 2006 when they claimed the Class D1 title.  The two met earlier this season with Overton winning 44-32.  Today’s game will be in Overton at 6 PM.  The other D2 semifinal today it’s a battle of undefeated teams when Humphrey St. Francis hosts Falls City Sacred Heart.
