The Broken Bow wrestling team advanced two wrestlers into the Class B state championship semifinals on Thursday during day one of the NSAA state wrestling championships in Omaha. Cyrus Wells will represent the Indians at 132 lbs. Wells won by technical fall in his opening round match and followed that with a thrilling win over Brock Bolling of Pierce in the quarterfinals scoring a takedown in the first overtime to win in sudden victory. Wells will face Orrin Kuehn of Minden in semis. Max Denson will wrestle in the championship semifinals at 182 lbs. It was an impressive start to the tournament for Denson who won his opening round and quarterfinal match by fall. Denson will wrestle Deegan Nelson of Beatrice in the Class B semifinals Friday night.

Chauncey Watson of Broken Bow won his opening round match at 106 lbs. by fall but lost in the quarterfinals by a 1-0 decision to Cameron Brumbaugh of Hastings. Wilson Cucul Tzin won his open round match at 113 but lost to Hunter Anderson of Hastings in quarters. Connor Wells made it to the quarterfinals at 138 lbs. but lost in the quarters to AJ Parrish of Bennington. Jack Myers, making his first state tournament appearance, lost to Hayden Russman of Cozad in the opening round and will wrestle Friday in the consolation bracket. Freshman Cal Wells won his opening match but lost in the quarterfinals by a 5-2 decision to Eli Boryca of Cozad. Keifer Anderson fell just short of qualifying for the semifinals at 220 lbs. dropping a 3-2 decision to Collin Schwartzkopf of Gering in the quarterfinals. Sawyer Bumgarner was also an eyelash away from qualifying for the semifinals at 285 lbs. Bumgarner wrestled Aaron Jividen of Aurora in the quarterfinals. The match went to the ultimate tie breaker with Jividen scoring an escape to win the match.

Chase Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City went 1-1 Thursday in Class C at 170 lbs. Stieb won his opening round match over Aiden Cook of Ponca by major decision but lost to Christopher Scdoris of Milford in the quarterfinals.

Cozad advanced two wrestlers to the Class B championship semifinals. They were Isaac White at 170 lbs. and Eli Boryca at 195 lbs.

First and second round consolation matches for classes B and C will begin at 9:30 Friday morning.
