The 2020-21 girls high school basketball season came to its conclusion Saturday as championships in six classes were decided. The first championship game of the day was in Class D1 where Pleasanton was trying to repeat as champion. The Lady Bulldogs came up just short in a thriller against Weeping Water. Pleasanton took the lead in the final seconds when Kaci Pierce scored to put Pleasanton up by one but Weeping Water’s Grace Cave quickly went the length of the court and scored in the final five seconds to give Weeping Water the win 40-39.
North Bend Central came back in the fourth quarter against Hastings St. Cecilia to win back to back Class C1 titles. North Bend Central scored with 8 seconds left to win 51-49. The Tigers were led by Sydney Emanuel who had 20 points and sister Kaitlyn finished with 19. Bailey Kissinger of Hastings St. Cecilia had the top scoring performance of championship Saturday finishing with 33 points.
Elkhorn North claimed the Class B title by defeating Norris 46-39. North had three players finish in double figures led by Grace Thompson who finished with 14 points.
Humphrey St. Francis took the Class D2 title on Saturday. St. Francis outscored Falls City Sacred Heart 16-9 in the fourth quarter to secure a 57-48 win. Alison Weidner of Humphrey St. Francis led all scorers with 21 points. The Flyers complete an undefeated season finishing 25-0.
Lincoln Pius fell behind by 7 at the end of the first quarter to Fremont in the Class A championship game but fought back to win 56-52. All state standout Alexis Markowski led the way for Pius finishing 12 of 19 from the field for a game high 27 points.
In final championship game of the day, Crofton edged Ponca for the Class C2 title 46-42. Crofton trailed at the end of the third quarter but would come back to outscore Ponca 12-4 in the final quarter. Crofton was led by Alexis Folkers and Jayden Jordan as each finished in double figures with 11.
