Championship Saturday at MNAC Tournament is Set

The matchups for championship Saturday at the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament are set.

Recapping Thursday’s semifinals

In the first girls’ semifinal, the Mullen girls outscored Anselmo-Merna 25-9 in the middle two quarters to pull away from the Lady Coyotes for a 50-19 victory. Mullen was led by Samantha Moore who scored a game high 21 points. AM was led by Jaide Chandler who had a team high 8 points.

In the second girls’ semifinal, South Loup held off Cody Kilgore for a 48-33 victory. Jessie Sallach had 15 points to lead the way for the Lady Bobcats and Kalie Glendy also finished in double figures with 12.

Mullen (14-2) will meet South Loup (13-3) for the girls championship Saturday at North Platte Community College. Anselmo-Merna will play Cody Kilgore in the 3rd place consolation game.

The boys championship will feature an all Loup Valley division matchup. South Loup jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first period against Mullen and stretched it to a 19 point lead at halftime as the Bobcats went on to win by a final of 45-27. Eddie Berger came off the bench for South Loup and knocked down five 3’s in the 2nd quarter to lead the team in scoring with 15 points. Brendon Walker and Ty Durfee each had 8 to lead the Broncos.

In the second boys’ semifinal, Anselmo-Merna outscored Sandhills/Thedford 20-6 in the final quarter to pull away from the Knights for a 64-40 victory. AM’s Seth Miller led all scorers with 22 points and Jace Leibhart scored 16 to lead the Coyotes. Cauy Pokorny scored 12 and Chase Haake had 11 to lead the Knights.

The boys championship will feature 2 teams with a combined record of 26-3 as Anselmo-Merna (13-2) takes on South Loup (13-1). Mullen will play Sandhills/Thedford in the third place consolation game.

All consolation and championship games Saturday will broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on with coverage beginning around 2:15 Saturday afternoon.
