Champions Crowned in American Legion Baseball

Champions were crowned Wednesday in Nebraska American Legion baseball. Bennington claimed the Class B Seniors State Tournament title by winning two games on Wednesday. Bennington defeated Springfield early in the day to advance to the championship game against Alliance. The title game was tied at 8-8 going into the 7th inning. Bennington scored a run in the top of the 7th and held on for a 9-8 victory to win the championship.

Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus completed an unbeaten Class C seniors state tournament with a 4-1 victory over Pender to claim the state title. Spencer Meyer went the distance on the mound for DCB throwing 94 pitches and giving up just one run on 7 hits.

In Class A, Gretna defeated Kearney Runza 5-1 in the championship game of the National Division playoffs. Gretna will now face Fremont in a best of three series beginning Friday to determine the Class A champion. Fremont advanced to the championship series by defeating Millard South in the championship game of the American Division playoffs.

The Class A Junior Legion state tournament came to a close Wednesday as well with Millard North claiming the title with a win over Lincoln Southwest in the championship game.
