Carlie Wells Visits With KCNI/KBBN About Being Named Next Broken Bow Football Coach

Broken Bow public schools officially announced the hiring of Carlie Wells as the next head football coach at Broken Bow high school. Wells replaces Mike Garner who announced that he would be stepping down as head coach after 23 years. Wells is a graduate of Broken Bow and he told KCNI/KBBN Sports that he is very excited to return to his alma mater and lead the football program.

Wells was the head coach of Elgin Public / Pope John when they won back to back Class D1 state championships in 2011 and 2012.  He currently serves as the K-12 principal at Anselmo-Merna public schools but looks forward to being a head coach again and working with young men on the football field

Wells played under coach Dan McLaughlin and was the starting center as a junior for the Broken Bow football team that won the state championship in 1987.  He spoke highly of coach McLaughlin and said that many of his coaches that he had as an athlete during his time at Broken Bow high school have served as strong influences in not just coaching but life as well.

It was recently released by the NSAA that Broken Bow will compete next year in the Class C1-7 football district with Cozad, Holdrege, Kearney Catholic, and Minden.
