Burwell Holds On in 4th Quarter to Remain Undefeated and Hand South Loup First Loss of Season

The KBBN game of the week lived up to the billing Friday night as two of the top teams in Class D1 met in Burwell. In a battle of unbeatens, Burwell outlasted South Loup for a 21-14 victory. Burwell’s Jase Williams put the Longhorns in front first with a 4 yard TD run in the 1st quarter. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, South Loup would respond as quarterback Jace Connell scored on a 5 yard TD run to make the score 7-6. The Longhorns would score twice more before the half to make the score 21-6 at halftime. Defenses ruled in the second half as neither team was able to cross the goal line until Jace Connell scored for South Loup on a 1 yard TD run with 2:03 left in the game to bring the Bobcats to within 7. That would be as close as South Loup would get as Burwell hung on for the 21-14 victory.
