The Broken Bow Spirit White team overcame a 6 run deficit in their final at bat to defeat Cozad in their softball opener Thursday night at Tyke Arnold Field. Cozad scored 5 runs in the first inning to grab the lead early and led 8-2 going to the bottom of the fifth inning. The Spirit erupted for 7 runs in their final at bat as Kate Holcomb drove in the winning run for a 9-8 walk off victory. The Spirit scored 9 runs on 9 hits and committed 5 errors. Cozad scored 8 runs on just 3 hits and committed 4 errors. Kaylee Peterson earned the victory in relief giving up 2 runs on no hits and striking out 2 in one inning of work. Mya Weverka started the game going 4 innings giving up 6 runs on 3 hits and striking out one.
The Broken Bow Spirit Blue team fell to Cozad in their opener. Cozad jumped out to an early lead and held on for an 8-2 win. Brianna Mowrey, Nikki Peters, Victoria Coleman, Daneille Claflin, and Elizabeth Nielsen each collected a hit to help lead the offense. Cozad scored 8 runs on 11 hits while the Spirit Blue scored 2 runs on 5 hits and neither team committed an error.
