Broken Bow Spirit Softball Teams Begin Play at State Tournament

The Broken Bow Spirit 14U and 16U/18U teams began play Friday at the Class D Nebraska USA Softball State Championships at the softball complex in Hastings.  The Bow Spirit 16U/18U team opened the tournament Friday afternoon against the Osmond Tigers.  Osmond jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks in large part to a seven run third inning.  The Spirit fought back though scoring three runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to cut the Osmond lead in half but that would be as close as Broken Bow would get as Osmond held on for a 10-5 win.  Dalila Griffiths led the Bow offense finishing 3 for 3 with 1 run scored and one run batted in.  Laney Holcomb also had a multi hit game going 2 for 2 with one run scored.  Taylor Schaaf led the team in RBI with two.  Osmond advances in the winner’s bracket while the Spirit will drop down and play again Saturday at 11:30 a.m against Arlington.

The Bow Spirit 14U team opened play Friday night when they met the Hebron Heat.  The game was scoreless after two innings and then the Bow offense erupted for 7 runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth on their way to a dominant 14-2 win.  Laney Dahlberg helped lead the way offensively going 2 for 3 with a run scored and 4 RBI.  Lily Thorton also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3 with 1 runs scored and one run batted in.  With the win, the Spirit advance in the winner’s bracket and will play Saturday afternoon at 3.
