The Broken Bow Spirit 18U girls softball team competed at the Kearney Klassic over the weekend. The Spirit opened against the O’Neill Green Machine on Saturday. Each team scored 3 runs in the first then Broken Bow scored a run in the fourth to take a one run lead into the fifth. O’Neill would put together a big 5th inning scoring 6 runs on their way to a 9-4 win. Kate Holcomb helped lead the Spirit offense going 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Spirit offense was held in check in their next two games on Saturday as they fell to the Nebraska Krush 12-0 and then fell to Kearney Dmilaco Black 13-0.
On Sunday, the Spirit would face the Nebraska Moonlight in their final game of the tournament. The Moonlight jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings to take control. The Spirit would get on the board with a run in the fifth but the Moonlight would hold on for a 7-1 victory. The Spirit finished with eight hits as Kennedy Garcia and Joscelyn Coleman each had multi hit games. Garcia would finish 2 for 2 and Coleman was 2 for 3.
The Spirit will host the Sandhills Strykers for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
