Broken Bow Legion Baseball Teams Split Doubleheader with PWG in Season Opener

The Broken Bow American Legion baseball teams opened their seasons Sunday by hosting Palmer Wolbach Greeley for a doubleheader at Paul Brown Field.

Broken Bow fell 9-6 to PWG in the Seniors game. The game was tied 4-4 after 3 innings but PWG would score 3 in the 4th and 2 more in the 6th to help secure the victory. Broken Bow collected seven hits for the game and were led by Clay Brandon who went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and Coy Johnson who went 2 for 3 with a single and double.

The Juniors game also finished 9-6 but Bow would be on the winning side of that one. The game was tied at 1 going to the fourth then Bow heated up offensively scoring 2 runs in the 4th and 3 more in both the fifth and sixth. Broken Bow led 9-2 going to the 7th and held off a PWG rally in the final inning to secure the win. Brody Ridder and Sam Loy each went 2 for 3 to help lead the offense. Blake Denson started on the mound and surrendered one run on one hit over 3 innings of work to pick up the win. Sawyer Bumgarner threw 4 innings of relief and recorded the final 12 outs.

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors and Seniors are next scheduled to host Overton for a doubleheader on Wednesday at Paul Brown Field. Game times are set for 5:30 (Juniors) and 8pm (Seniors)
