In amazing, thrilling, unbelievable, and any other adjective you would like to use, fashion the Broken Bow American Legion Juniors baseball team claimed the Class B Area 6 tournament title with a come from behind win against top seeded McCook.
The area tournament came to an end Tuesday night with a game that all who were in attendance will remember for a long time. The evening started with McCook playing O’Neill in an elimination game for the right to move into the championship game. McCook was able to advance with a 3-1 win. That set up a rematch with Broken Bow who had defeated McCook earlier in the tournament. McCook jumped out early scoring 4 unearned runs in the first. Broken Bow would chip away though as the score was 5-3 after 5. In the sixth, McCook would score 3 runs and add another in the 7th. Broken Bow scored one run in the sixth to make the score 9-4 going to Broken Bow’s final at bat. What happened next is proof why you should never leave a baseball game early. Caden Holm led off the inning with a sharp single followed by a single from Sawyer Bumgarner who would finish the night 4 for 4 at the plate. The next 3 batters would walk followed by a single from Kaden McKean and before you knew it Broken Bow had tied the game at 9-9. With the bases loaded and one out, the man who started the inning would finish the inning. Caden Holm drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the winning run and crown the Bow Juniors area tournament champions. Broken Bow now advances to the state tournament which begins Saturday in McCook.
