Broken Bow Girls Basketball – Preview

Today Central Nebraska’s Sports Source previews the Broken Bow girls basketball team as they prepare to tip off its 2020-21 season this week.  The Lady Indians will look to build off an impressive 2019-20 season that saw them finish 23-3 setting the school record for most wins in a season.  Broken Bow also claimed its third straight Southwest Conference tournament title and qualified for a district final for the second year in a row.  Kelly Cooksley enters his fourth season as head coach and told KCNI/KBBN sports that the success of last year was another step forward for the program.

The Lady Indians will return a strong core of players that have logged a lot of playing time at the varsity level.  Junior Kya Scott led the team in scoring a year ago with 13 points per game and senior Kali Staples, who recently signed her letter of intent to play collegiately for Doane University, is the school record holder for assists in a career and a season.  Coach Cooksley said that guard play will be the strength of this year’s team.

One area that Broken Bow is a bit thin at this year is size on the interior.  Coach Cooksley said that they will need to find a way to fill the void on the inside when post players Kassidy Cyboron and Emma Schall need to come out.

Broken Bow will tip off its season Thursday when they host Arcadia/Loup City at the Indian gym and then will travel to play North Platte St. Pat’s on Friday.  Thursday’s game will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and Friday’s game will be broadcast on KCNI 96.3 FM.
