Broken Bow and Anselmo-Merna to Play in the 2022 Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase

Broken Bow girls basketball coach and creator of the Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase Kelly Cooksley joined KCNI/KBBN Sports Director Brent Apperson Saturday to announce on Twitter the matchups for the eight games that will make up the 2022 Nebraska Girls Basketball Showcase which will take place January 8th at the Viaero Center in Kearney.  Anselmo-Merna and Broken Bow will be among the teams that will compete in next year’s event.  Anselmo-Merna will face Cross County in what will be the opening game of the showcase.  AM will return several key players from last year’s team that finished 17-7 and was just one game short of playing in Lincoln at the girls state tournament as they fell to BDS 41-36 in the D1-6 district final.  Cross County was also one game short of making it to the state tournament in Lincoln last year as they fell to Ponca 28-23 in the Class C2-6 district final concluding the season at 20-5.  Broken Bow will return to the showcase after playing in the inaugural event earlier this year.  The Lady Indians are coming off back to back 23 win seasons and qualified last season for the girls state tournament for the first time since 2003.  Broken Bow’s opponent at the showcase will be Auburn who finished last season 17-6 falling to Sidney in the Class C1-8 district final.

10:30 AM – Blue Hill vs Maywood Hayes Center
12:10 PM – Clarkson Leigh vs Northwest
1:50 PM – Adams Central vs Bridgeport
3:30 PM – Broken Bow vs Auburn
5:10 PM – Oakland Craig vs Sidney
6:50 PM – North Bend Central vs GICC
8:30 PM – York vs Kearney
