Broken Bow American Legion Baseball – Weekend Recap

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors and Seniors baseball teams traveled out west to meet Imperial in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Bow seniors outhit Imperial / Chase County 6-5 but struggled scoring runs in a 4-1 loss.  Imperial scored a run in the 2nd, two in the third, and one more in the 4th.  Broken Bow finally scored in the 7th when Blake Denson drove in Carter Johnson for what would be Bow’s only run of the day.  Broken Bow struggled defensively as they committed six errors.  Clay Brandon and Keifer Anderson each had multi-hit efforts.  Brandon was 2 for 4 and Anderson finished 2 for 3.  With the loss, Broken Bow drops to below .500 for the first time this season and is now 7-8 overall.

The Bow juniors picked up a big win Saturday by knocking off fellow league member Imperial.  Bow led 5-1 going to the bottom of the 6th inning but saw Imperial score 4 runs in their half of the sixth to come back and tie the game.  In the 7th, Brody Ridder collected the big hit for Bow as he singled and drove in two runs to help lift Broken Bow to a 7-5 win.  Ridder had a big day going 3 for 4 with a total of 3 RBI and 1 run scored.  Sawyer Bumgarner was also 3 for 4 and collected 3 RBI.

The Bow juniors then hosted Sutton for a juniors only doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Paul Brown Field.  Game one was a well pitched low scoring affair with Bow picking up the win 3-1.  Austin Harvey picked up the win going five innings and surrendering just 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 7.  Carter Johnson pitched two innings of no-hit scoreless relief.  Bow’s runs came early as they scored 2 in the first and one more in the third.  Max Denson went 2 for 3 with a run scored to help lead the offensive attack.  Game two was not as close as Sutton got their offense cranked up scoring 13 runs on 12 hits en route to a 13-2 win.  Sutton led early 5-0 after three innings and then would put the game away with a 7 run 6th inning.  Austin Harvey went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 1 RBI to help lead the Bow offense.  The Bow juniors conclude the regular season at 10-5.

This concludes regular season play for both the Bow juniors and seniors.  The Bow juniors team will now prepare for the Mid Nebraska League Tournament which is scheduled to begin July 16.  All league tournament games will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com
