Boys Sub District Finals – Area Results 2/25

The Burwell Longhorns claimed the title at the D1-10 boys sub district tournament Thursday night with a thrilling come from behind win in overtime against Ansley/Litchfield. Ansley/Litchfield outscored Burwell 21-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a 32-21 lead into halftime and then extended the lead to 14 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Burwell’s Barak Birch caught fire scoring 20 of his game high 25 points as the Longhorns came back to tie the game at 57-57 at the end of regulation to force overtime. In the overtime period, Ansley/Litchfield had possession in the final seconds down by two but were unable to convert as Burwell held on for a 63-61 win. Ansley/Litchfield was led by Jeff Cunningham who had a team high 16 points. With the win, Burwell automatically advances to sub state and will play in a district final. Ansley/Litchfield was #4 in the NSAA point standings entering Thursday night’s game and should be in good position to receive a wildcard berth in the sub state tournament and qualify for a district final. Burwell is now 23-0 on the season while Ansley/Litchfield falls to 19-4.

In other area sub district action, the Mullen Broncos claimed the title at the D2-10 sub district tournament. The Broncos defeated Paxton 49-36 and advances to a district final. SEM fell just short at the D2-8 sub district tournament as they fell to top seed Loomis, in overtime, 56-54. Cozad saw their season come to an end at the C1-11 sub district tournament as the Haymakers fell to Kearney Catholic 59-27.
