The Nebraska high school winter sports season officially came to end over the weekend with the conclusion of the boys state basketball tournament. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it was a tournament unlike any other with attendance limited to only “immediate family” but the tournament was able to be played in its entirety and champions were crowned for each class on Saturday.
The Mullen Broncos placed fourth at the tournament in Class D2. Mullen opened the tournament by defeating St. Mary’s of O’Neill in the opening round 51-49 but then fell to Humphrey St. Francis in the semifinals and then lost to Parkview Christian in the 3rd place consolation game 62-43. The Broncos conclude the season at 22-7 overall. Falls City Sacred Heart claimed the Class D2 title with a 45-33 win over Humphrey St. Francis in the championship game. It was Sacred Heart’s 10th boys state title.
