Bow Juniors Suffer First Loss of the Season as They Fall to Beatrice in Opening Round at State

The Broken Bow American Legion juniors baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night as they fell to Beatrice 12-5 in the opening round of the Class B American Legion juniors state tournament.  Beatrice took control of the game right away as they scored 7 runs in their first at bat.  The Beatrice juniors would add 2 more in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to account for their 12 as they pounded out 16 hits in the game.  Bow tried to battle back but the 7 runs Beatrice scored in the first inning was too much to overcome.  Austin Harvey helped lead the way offensively finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored and one run batted in.  Caden Holm also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3.  Eli Coble was 1 for 2 but scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI.

Broken Bow used 4 pitchers Saturday.  Caden Holm pitched one inning throwing 43 pitches and giving up 7 runs on 4 hits.  Austin Harvey pitched 2 innings of relief throwing 52 pitches giving up 3 runs on 4 hits.  Hagan Campbell pitched 2 innings of relief throwing 30 pitches giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and Brice Chaplin pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief throwing 36 pitches.

Broken Bow drops down to the elimination bracket where they will face Arlington Sunday morning as they will try to stay alive in the tournament.  Arlington lost to Waverly 6-0 in round one.  Sunday’s game is scheduled for 9 a.m. and will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com.  Beatrice will play Waverly Sunday in the winner’s bracket.

In other opening round action Saturday, Pierce defeated Central City 6-3 and Blair held off Chadron 9-8.
