Bow Falls to Kearney Catholic in Season Opener

The Broken Bow Indians football team fell to Kearney Catholic 21-0 in its season opener Friday night. Kearney Catholic struck first on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Heinrich Haarberg to Spencer Hilker to make the score 7-0 with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter. The Stars had opportunities to add to their lead in the first half and early in the 2nd but the Broken Bow defense came up big on several occasions forcing 2 missed field goals and holding on a 4th and goal situation inside the Bow 5 yard line. Unfortunately, the Broken Bow offense could not get anything established during the night which allowed Kearney Catholic to take advantage of good field position late in the third quarter and early in the 4th. The Stars scored on a 4 yard run by Kamden Schwartz with 2:36 left in the 3rd quarter and then scored on a 7 yard touchdown run by Heinrich Haarberg early in the 4th quarter. Broken Bow will travel to Minden next week.
