Big Ten tournament roundup: Ohio State eliminates Michigan, Illinois stays alive

Ohio State 5, Michigan 3

Tyler Cowles knocked in a pair of runs as the Buckeyes eliminated the Wolverines. Ohio State will face top-seeded Minnesota on Saturday.

Ohio State jumped ahead 2-0 on RBI hits by Cowles and Noah McGregor in the third inning, and Bo Coolen’s home run to right made it 3-1 Ohio State in the sixth. Cowles made it a 5-1 game with an RBI flyout later that inning.

Brock Keener’s two-run single in the seventh pulled Michigan within 5-3, but Seth Kinker held off the Wolverines for his 15th save.

Adam Niemeyer picked up the win for Michigan, allowing one run in five innings. Ben Dragani took the loss in relief.

Illinois 5, Indiana 4

Illinois’ Ben Troike drove in the winning run from second with a double in the ninth inning after Indiana’s centerfielder missed while trying to make a diving catch.

The Illini scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead, but the Hoosiers tied it with one run in the seventh.

Troike hit 2 for 5 to lead Illinois.
