The Broken Bow Lady Indians started the volleyball season with a straight set victory over Hershey on Thursday night. Bow trailed 22-20 in the opening set but came back to win 25-23. Bow controlled set #2 to win 25-19. In set 3, Broken Bow jumped out to a 14-7 lead but saw Hershey run off six unanswered points to close to within 14-13. Bow then responded with an 8-2 run and went on to claim set 3 25-21. Broken Bow will next host Gothenburg on Sept. 5 at the Indian gym. Gothenburg defeated Cozad in straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-9) in their opening match of the season Thursday.
Arcadia/Loup City opened the season with a straight set win over Wood River (25-10, 25-13, 25-14). Ansley/Litchfield suffered two tough losses at the Amherst triangular on Thursday. The Spartans fell to Amherst 2-0 (27-25, 26-24) and lost to Elm Creek 2-0 (25-20, 25-12).
