The Broken Bow Indians fell to Kearney Catholic in its season opener Friday night 56-7. Heinrich Haarberg had a big night to lead the way for the Stars. The junior quaterback threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more. Broken Bow was able to score in the third quarter when Blake Denson connected with Keegan Baxter for a 36 yard touchdown pass. Broken Bow will play their home opener on September 6th when they host Minden at Mark Russell Field. Minden shut out Gibbon in its opener Friday night 40-0.

South Loup dropped its seson opener to Sutherland Friday night 38-34. South Loup led 34-24 in the third quarter but Sutherland would score 14 unanswered points to come back and claim the win. Jace Connell had a big night for the Bobcats finishing with 28 carries for 165 yards including a 65 yard touchdown run.
