Nebraska high school rodeo contestants competed this past weekend in Burwell for rodeos on Saturday and Sunday. Once again, area cowboys and cowgirls had a strong showing. Taci Flinn of Arcadia was the girls all around champion on Saturday. Flinn won the pole bending in a time of 21.249 seconds and finished second in the barrels. Brody McAbee of Ansley had a great weekend in the saddle broncs winning on Saturday with a 79 and then won the event on Sunday by posting the only qualified ride of the day with a score of 66. Other champions from the area on Saturday included, Cooper Bass of Brewster in the boys cutting with a winning score of 74 and Dalton Garey of Broken Bow teamed with Coy Preitauer of Stamford, NE to win the team roping Saturday in a time of 9.35 seconds.
On Sunday, Broken Bow’s Dalton Garey had the only qualified ride of the day in the bull riding posting a winning score of 60. Spencer DeNaeyer of Seneca won the barebacks with a score of 64. Gracyn Hicks of Burwell won the girls cutting with a score of 72. Trey Garey of Broken Bow partnered with Trace Travnicek of Minatare to win the team roping in a time of 6.95 seconds and Zane Kreikemeier of Callaway won the tie down roping on Sunday with a winning time of 10.55 seconds.
