Area Athletes Qualify for State Cross Country – Broken Bow Boys and Girls and South Loup Girls Qualify as a Team

The Broken Bow boys and girls cross country teams each qualified for the NSAA state cross country championships Thursday as both finished in the top 3 of the team standings at the C-5 district meet in Ogallala.  The Broken Bow boys finished second behind district champion Sidney and the Broken Bow girls were third behind champion Sidney and runner-up Chadron.  The top 3 teams and top 15 individuals from each district qualify for the state meet.  The Broken Bow boys placed four runners in the top 15.  Noah Osmond was 6th, Daine Wardyn was 9th, Trey Hurlburt was 11th, and Jesse Gallian was 12th.  The boys individual champion was Daniel Bashtovoi of Sidney in a winning time of 16:27.21.  The Broken Bow girls placed four runners in the top 20.  Makinley Tobey placed 7th, Gracie Hackel was 12th, Cassidy Schweitzer was 18th, and Anna Lindstrom finished 20th.  The girls individual champion was Lindee Henning of Ogallala (18:54.34)

C-5 DISTRICT RESULTS

Ty Greenland of Arcadia/Loup City qualified for the Class D boys state meet by placing in the top 15 of the D-4 district at Franklin.  Greenland finished 5th in a time of 18:30.4.  Trevor Kuncl of Mullen qualified for state finishing as the boys runner-up at the D-5 district at Bridgeport.  Kuncl was edged at the finish line by Damin Luedke of Paxton.  Luedke’s time was 17:05.65 and Kuncl’s time was 17:05.68.  Colin Rooney and Jared Trimble of Sandhills Valley and Logan Recoy of South Loup qualified for state by finishing in the top 15 of the D-5 district at Cambridge.  Rooney finished 8th, Recoy was 9th, and Trimble finished 13th.

The South Loup girls qualified as a team for the state cross country championships by finishing runner-up to North Platte St. Pat’s at the D-5 district meet at Cambridge.  South Loup placed three in the top 15th.  Ivy Tullis placed 3rd, Ella Cool was 5th, and Heidi Donegan finished 11th.  Josie Smith of SEM qualified as an individual out of the D-5 district finishing 12th.  Mullen qualified two girls for state at the D-6 district at Bridgeport.  Peyton Paxton was the district champion in a winning time of 20:35.90 and Callie Coble placed 3rd.  Jymmie Jensen of Burwell qualified for state out of the D-3 finishing 5th overall.
