Area Athletes Make Omaha World Herald All State Football Teams

The Omaha World Herald released its all state football teams and selections this past weekend.  Sandhills/Thedford and Burwell are both well represented.  Sandhills/Thedford finished as the state runner-up in Class D2 and Burwell was the state runner-up in Class D1.

Sandhills/Thedford placed three players on the Class D2 All State team.  Dane Pokorny was all state at running back.  The junior ran for over 2,000 yards this season and had 36 rushing touchdowns to lead the Knights.  Pokorny was also selected as an honorary captain by the publication.  Brayton Branic received all state recognition on the offensive line and Reed McFadden, who led S/T in total tackles this season, was all state at linebacker.

Burwell also placed three players on the Class D1 All State team.  Caleb Bush was all state at running back and was chosen as an honorary captain by the OWH.  Carter Mann was all state on the offensive line and Cash Gurney was an all state selection at defensive back.

Owen Geiken of Gothenburg made the Class C1 all state team at linebacker

The following players from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area received all state honorable mention in their respective class

Cozad: Jacob Weatherly, Nolan Wetovick, Kaleb Pahl, Gunnar Armagost

Anselmo-Merna: Kade Safranek, Bryce Schmidt, Joel Finney.

Arcadia-Loup City: Clayton Dethlefs, Jadyn Scott, Tryon Calleroz, Drew Lewandowski

Burwell: Cash Gurney, Alex Gideon, Hunter Mayfield, Mason Plock.

Ansley-Litchfield: Tysen Bailey, Kolby Larson.

Mullen: Spencer DeNaeyer, Bryce McIntosh, Clayton Moore, Sean Simonson, Jaden Emerson

Sandhills/Thedford: Drew McIntosh, Reece Zutavern, Matt Dailey, Seth Scranton, Grant Ahlstrom.

Sandhills Valley: Lane Watson, Coy Johnston, Conner Phillips.

Twin Loup: Quade Young.
