Area Athletes Deliver Outstanding Performances at State Track and Field Championships

The 2018 NSAA State Track and Field Championships concluded Saturday at Burke Stadium in Omaha. Here are some of the area highlights. Justin Bailey of Ansley-Litchfield took gold for the Spartans in the boys Class D 300 meter hurdles. Bailey crossed the line with a winning time of 40.87 seconds. Gage Haake of Sandhills/Thedford placed 4th in the event and Chris Paitz of Ansley-Litchfield was 8th. Twin Loup had a strong showing in the relays. The team of Colby and Cooper Coons, Alex Horky, and Hunter Kraus took the silver medal in the Class D boys 1600 meter relay and placed 5th in the 3200 meter relay. Jadeyn Bubak of South Loup was the silver medalist in the Class C girls 100 meter dash and won bronze in the 200. Carlie Collier of Sandhills/Thedford brought home medals in the Class D girls 100 (5th), 200 (5th), and 400 (6th). She then joined Brayden Rhoades, Johanna Christie, and Marlee Taylor to claim the silver medal in the Class D girls 400 meter relay. Sarah Lewis of Ansley-Litchfield placed 3rd in both the girls 100 and 300 meter hurdles in Class D. Megan Burkholder of Cozad won the Class B girls pole vault by clearing 11′ 2″ and Tyce Hruza of Gothenburg won the Class B boys pole vault and set a new state meet record by clearing 16 feet and one half inch.

Class B – Kennedy Berreckman of Cozad was 5th in girls pole vault ; Bennett Folkers of Gothenburg was 6th in the boys 110 meter hurdles ; Cozad was 7th in the girls 400 meter relay ; Patrick Hudson of Gothenburg was 6th in the boys discus ; Gothenburg was 7th in the girls 3200 meter relay

Class C – Zac Stieb of Arcadia/Loup City was 8th in boys discus ; South Loup was 6th in the boys 400 meter relay and 5th in the 1600 meter relay ; Kalen Dockweiler of South Loup was 4th in the boys 800 meter run ; Emma Hoffscheider of Burwell was 8th in the 800 meter run ; Hallee Mann of Burwell was 3rd in the girls pole vault ; Nolan Baker of Arcadia/Loup City was 4th in the boys long jump and 3rd in the triple jump ; Michaela Kelly of Burwell was 3rd in the girls 3200 meter run

Class D – Alyssa Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield was 4th in girls high jump and 4th in the triple jump ; Johannah Christie of Sandhills/Thedford was 5th in girls high jump and 8th in the 800 ; Alexis Zimmer of Anselmo-Merna was tied for 6th in girls high jump ; Mullen was 3rd in boys 1600 meter relay, 4th in the girls 1600 meter relay, and 5th in the girls 3200 meter relay ; Emery Swan of Brady was 2nd in the girls 400 and 800 ; Luke Christen of Mullen was 6th in the boys 1600 meter run and 4th in the 800 ; Nolan Marten of Sandhills/Thedford was 6th in the boys 100 ; Chris Paitz of Ansley/Litchfield was 4th in the boys 110 meter hurdles ; Justin Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield was 5th in the boys 110 meter hurdles ; Tell Spies of Mullen was 5th in the boys discus and 3rd in the shot put ; Alex Horky of Twin Loup tied for 3rd in boys pole vault ; Colton Lovitt of Brady was 4th in the boys long jump and 5th in the triple jump ; Lane Edis of Mullen was 5th in the boys long jump and 4th in the high jump ; Brady was 3rd in the boys 3200 meter relay ; Samantha Moore of Mullen was 5th in the girls 100 meter hurdles
