Area Athletes Compete at UNK High School Cross Country Meet

The University of Nebraska at Kearney hosted its annual high school cross country meet at the Kearney Country Club on Monday. The meet featured competition in all four Nebraska high school classifications for cross country.

Recapping some of the area highlights, Broken Bow was among the teams that competed in the Class C competition.  In the girls race, Broken Bow’s Ashlyn Schauda finished in the top 25 placing 21st in a time of 21:58.07.  The Class C girls individual champion was Talissa Tanquary of Sidney in a winning time of 20:14.21.  Jaycee Staples of Broken Bow finished in the top 60 of the Class C girls field which included 193 runners.  Staples placed 58th overall.  Gothenburg’s Adeline Pinkston was 23rd overall.

In the Class C boys race, Broken Bow’s Jackson Hansen finished in the top 30 placing 27th overall.  Brock Oeltjen of Broken Bow was second best on the team coming in 86th overall in a Class C boys field that included over 300 competitors.  Tyler Hetz of Gothenburg finished in the top five finishing 3rd overall.  Gus Lampe of Omaha Roncalli was the Class C boys individual champion in a winning time of 16:43.38.

In Class D, Peyton Paxton of Mullen finished in the top five of the girls race. Paxton was 4th overall in a time of 21:04.72. The Class D girls individual champion was Hannah Swanson of Nebraska Christian in a winning time of 20:46.61. Mullen had three others place in the top 40. Harper Anderson was 28th, Riley Hegland 31st, and Ady Hampton was 35th. South Loup’s Ella Cool finished in the top 20 placing 20th in a time of 22:49.33. Rilyn Schledewitz of SEM finished in the top 50 placing 43rd overall.

In the Class D boys race, Kyle Finney of Mullen placed in the top 25 finishing 23rd in a time of 18:45.01.  Logan Recoy and Josiah Coleman of South Loup both finished in the top 40.  Recoy was 35th and Coleman placed 40th.  The Class D boys individual champion was Mason McGreer of Perkins County in a winning time of 16:48.98.
