Ansley/Litchfield Meets Anselmo-Merna in Area Football Opener

Are you ready for some football?!?!  The 2020 high school football season begins in full swing this week with one of the top area matchups taking place tonight when Anselmo-Merna hosts Ansley/Litchfield at Clark Adams Field.  Anselmo-Merna finished 3-5 in the regular season last year and qualified for the Class D2 playoffs.  The schedule will have a different look this year as AM moves up to Class D1.  The Coyotes will compete in the D1-8 district with Amherst, Arcadia/Loup City, Burwell, and Ravenna.  Ansley/Litchfield will drop down to Class D2 this season after competing in Class D1 the last two seasons.  The Spartans will compete in the D2-9 district with Pleasanton, Sandhills Valley, Sandhills/Thedford, South Loup, and Twin Loup.

The two programs have had many great battles over the years.  Both coaches expressed that the teams are excited to play one another after not getting to do so the last two years.  A/L head coach Kurt Kulhanek told KCNI/KBBN sports that it’s always fun when the two hook up.

Coach Matt McGinn said that he appreciates the history of the matchup and enjoys thinking of the people who have had a part in it over the years.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.
